I was asked by our Multimedia Editor Sebastian Perez-Navarro to submit my best photos of the semester so far, so here is a compilation of my favorite Prospector work of the semester up until now. Each one of these photos stands out to me for a different reason, and I’ve included the context behind them.

Goldrush Fireworks
I wanted to give my own spin on the standard photographer coverage of Minerpalooza. I’ve never covered the event before and I was pretty nervous, so I thought it’d be fun and make me more comfortable to look at the event with the mindset of “pretend like this is a really aesthetic A24 film and get the best shots I can.

Cemetery Fashion
This was a one-of-a-kind fashion show in Concordia cemetery called “Death by Denim,” and I thought it was a unique concept which inclined me to shoot it. If you couldn’t tell already, I like to go crazy editing my photos. I love the way that everything just makes the model stand out here. This event goes down in my book of most interesting events.

Football Glory
This picture was the front cover of our first issue of the fall 2025 semester, and I’m proud of this shot because of how fast-paced football can get. I remember being so zoned out on the side of the field and seeing Ashten Emory charging towards me, I have never picked up my camera so fast before. While I know nothing about football, it’s still my favorite sport to shoot.

Miner Dash
Back then when I used to see photographers get such good candids of celebrations, I thought “there’s no way.” After a lot of practice, I think I was able to get a pretty good candid here. This was the Miner Dash event, which I had to wake up at 6 a.m. for and honestly, I’m pretty surprised I even made it on time.

Behind Denim
This was part of the behind the scenes of the “Death by Denim” fashion show curated by Janace Walker. I got to have this photoshoot in Perches Funeral Home, which had different themed exhibits in its museum portion of the funeral home. I didn’t even know this was a thing prior to the photoshoot, but it came in handy for this fun photoshoot.

Raise Your Pick
I only had about 15 minutes to have this photoshoot, which if you’re a picky photographer like me, you would know 15 minutes is close to nothing. Through The Prospector and our Assistant Director Crystal Hinga, I had opportunity to shoot for UTEP’s “Raise Your Pick” campaign which meant I had to bring the best quality I could.

Futbol vs. Football
Prior to this photoshoot, it felt like a while since I planned a fun concept for a story that I was shooting. These photos were for a story about “Futbol vs. Football,” which compared the history of the two sports. Isaac and Diego, the two subjects in this photo, were the best people to help me bring the story to life.

Tribute Scream
This is Janace Walker, the face behind “Death by Denim.” At the end of her Concordia Cemetery fashion show, she paid tribute to the dead with a scream, which I happened to be standing in the perfect place to capture.

Editor Photoshoot
This is a photo of our Fall 2025 Layout Editor Mia Colmenero for our “meet the editors” photoshoot. For this photoshoot, I wanted to see how creative I could get for each editor, while still staying true to the overall vibe. I remember having our Sports Editor Kristian Hernandez stand behind everyone with a portable LED so I could get my ideal lighting.

Goldrush Anticipation
For this photo, I wanted to show the anticipation that Texas Western Gold Rush brings by keeping everyone in the crowd hidden. It was also my first time covering Gold Rush as well. Fun fact, at the time of writing this, the picture is currently my header on LinkedIn.
