Legendary and iconic U.S. women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe has announced her retirement after the National Women’s Soccer League season ends.  

Rapinoe says her fourth and final World Cup will take place at the end of the month and publicly announced via Twitter, “It is with a deep sense of peace and gratitude that I have decided this will be my final season playing this beautiful game.”   

“I never could have imagined the ways in which soccer would shape and change my life forever,” Rapinoe said.   

In the 11 years Rapinoe has been in the game, she leaves with two World Cup titles and an Olympic gold medal. Along with her influential mark in the sport, she leaves a legacy for numerous fans.
