Early Friday morning, UTEP Police sent out an email to students, faculty, and staff about restroom safety tips after an incident occurred on campus in the women’s restroom. This is the second incident to occur on campus as the first one occurred May 31 in the University Library, according to the UTEP Police monthly crime and incident log. The most recent incident took place Wednesday, June 28 inside the Education Building.

Tips mentioned by the police department include being aware of your surroundings, securing your bathroom stall door, considering using a buddy system when using the restroom, having your cell phone ready in case, and noting any suspicious individuals.

In the current logs, these are the only cases reported to campus police, but they still ask if there is anyone suspicious or trying to record a restroom stall that you report immediately to 911 or University police at 915-747-5611.

Both cases are still currently open and being investigated. UTEP Police and UTEP could not comment at this time due to the investigation. We will update this story as updates come in.
