UTEP Junior forward Jo Jo Ngongo takes a hard slide to strip ball from Southern Miss Oct. 20, 2019.

The 2020 UTEP soccer home schedule, which includes a match-up against Pac-12 foe Arizona State and a shortened Conference-USA slate, was announced July 8. Season tickets are made available for the first time for fans as the second season of the Kathryn Balogun era begins.

An Aug. 28 match-up against Incarnate Word kicks off the Miners home schedule. The Miners proceed to take on Division II Lubbock Christian Sept. 3, Arizona State Sept.6 and Utah Valley University Sept. 17 to cap off the nonconference home slate.

UTEP’s battle against Arizona State marks the first time the Miners will take on the Sun Devils in a regular season matchup since 1997 and the first time the Sun Devils will visit the Sun City.

“With everything going on in our country we are excited to announce our home schedule for the 2020 season,” Head Coach Kathryn Balogun said in a press release. “This season brings with it some significant and unprecedented changes, but we are excited to host so many home games amid the travel challenges our country is facing.”

Due to COVID-19 a shortened Conference-USA home slate was made as the Miners take on Louisiana Tech Sept. 20, University of Alabama at Birmingham Oct. 4 and University of North Texas Oct. 23.

The Miners will be looking to avenge its Conference-USA tournament loss against North Texas last season as UTEP loss 3-1 in the quarterfinal round as the seventh seed.

“We will wrap up our home matches with senior night against North Texas, who sent us home from the conference tournament last year,” Balogun said in a press release It will be a great game! We are excited to build on what we started last year and excited to see our fans as that becomes an opportunity.”

UTEP is coming off a strong first season under Balogun in which the squad accumulated a 10-7-3 overall record with a 5-4-1 mark in Conference-USA play.

A returning 21 players will be a part of the 2020-2021 team including 2019 Conference-USA All Freshman team selection Tessa Carlin who paced the Miners with 17 points,  five goals and  seven assists.
