Five UTEP studentathletes have tested positive for COVID-19 according to release from the University and the athletes will self-quarantine for 14 days.

All UTEP Athletic facilities were immediately closed for extensive cleaning following the positive test results and all UTEP athletic facilities are closed to student-athletes until Thursday July 16.

Approximately 60 studentathletes have been participating in voluntary workouts on campus to prepare for the 2020-2021 athletic season.

The UTEP athletic department have been taking precaution in the return of student athletes and staff members to campus with all student athletes screened upon arrival to the facilities with temperature checks, and athletes were questioned with recommended medical questions.

The locker rooms were restricted to a certain amount of people and limited workout groups to a maximum of 15 people.

Studentathletes are also required to wear a face mask in the athletic facilities and all workout equipment is cleaned and sanitized. All student- athletes were tested for COVID-19 prior to gaining access to the athletic facilities and all submitted an initial negative test result according to the release.

All student-athletes will continue to be tested and cleared prior to using the athletic facilities.
