UTEP spring sports have been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Effective immediately all spring sport competition for Conference-USA institutions are suspended until further notice in statement released by Conference-USA.

UTEP athletics competes in Conference-USA.

UTEP softball, men’s and women’s track and field, women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf and softball were currently in season.

The softball team’s three-game home series March 13-March 15 against UAB is cancelled as well as UTEP tennis’s home matchup against Chicago State March 16.

“This decision was made with the safety of our fans, student-athletes, coaches and staff as the utmost priority,” UTEP Director of Athletics Jim Senter said in a press release. ” We will monitor the situation in the coming weeks in consultation with Conference USA Leadership, the University Administration and each respective varsity sport team and make modifications as needed.”

All UTEP teams scheduled to compete away from home this weekend will return to El Paso.

The announcement comes after C-USA cancelled the remainder of the C-USA men’s and women’s basketball tournament in Frisco, Texas.
