UTEP 2030 Strategic Plan to involve students, faculty, staff

In an email from the President’s Office at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) sent on Jan. 30 to all students, faculty and staff, a strategic plnning process for the next 10 years was announced.

“An effective planning process will help us make choices and sequence good ideas so that we prioritize the most important things for our future,” UTEP President Heather Wilson said in her announcement. (It) must be inclusive, imaginative and allow every member of the campus community to contribute.”  

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate by attending the theme group meetings, charettes and open forums. A special section in the plan’s website called “Join the Conversation” enables visitors to submit their feedback by completing an online form or by emailing [email protected] 

UTEP 2030 Strategic Plan kicked off in January 2020 and is scheduled for completion in August of this year. A full timeline detailing the goals to accomplish each month of the process can be found in the plan’s website under the Timeline tab. 

As part of the strategy, seven alternative futures have been developed as aspirations for the next decade.  

“Alternative futures are designed to generate creativity and provoke us to imagine where we might go from here, while still reflecting our mission and building on our strengths,” the plan’s website reads.  

Some of the strategic priorities within the alternative futures include increasing recruitment, strengthening international programs, developing innovative continuous learning, prioritizing top-tier programs, creating more Ph.D. programs, redesigning the core curriculum and promoting a debt-free undergraduate plan.
