UTEP Centennial Lecture Series: ‘Is it Time to Abolish the Electoral College?’

Paul Finkelman, the president of Gratz College in Philadelphia, will be the guest speaker at a Centennial Lecture at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16 at the Undergraduate Learning Center, Room 106.

Finkelman’s lecture is titled, “Is It Time to Abolish the Electoral College?”

The lecture is free and open to the public.

 

UTEP’s Military Student Success Center to Host 9/11 Event

UTEP’s Military Student Success Center will host a commemoration ceremony honoring the victims and heroes of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Centennial Plaza.

The ceremony will include performances by the UTEP Chorale and UTEP Faculty Brass Quintet.

A Vitalant blood drive will take place outside the Undergraduate Learning Center from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

UTEP Dean Ends Term as UT System Academy Chief

The University of Texas at El Paso’s Beth Brunk-Chavez, Ph.D., dean of Extended University, recently stepped down as president of The University of Texas System’s Academy of Distinguished Teachers. She led the organization for two years.

“It was my honor to serve as president of The University of Texas System Academy of Distinguished Teachers for the last two years,” Brunk-Chavez said. “It gave me the opportunity to share with and learn from many of the System’s excellent teachers.”

 

UTEP to Celebrate “El Grito”

UTEP’s Student Engagement and Leadership Center invites students, faculty and staff to celebrate “El Grito” at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13 at the Union Breezeway. 

Special guests include Mauricio Ibarra Ponce de León, Cónsul General of Mexico in El Paso, and a special presentation by Escolta y Banda de Guerra of the Instituto Tecnológico de Cuidad Juárez.

The ceremony will close with a performance by the Mariachi Femenil Flores Mexicanas.

 

UTEP President to Deliver State of the University Address

The University of Texas at El Paso President Heather Wilson will present the annual State of the University address at the University’s Fall Convocation at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 at the Fox Fine Arts Center, Recital Hall, 2nd  floor. The event is free and open to the public.

 

UTEP Hosts Career EXPO 2019

Current UTEP students, recent graduates, or alumni looking for a job or a career change are invited to Career EXPO 2019 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 19-20 at the UTEP Don Haskins Center.

Representatives from over 100 federal, state, local and private organizations will be available to meet with job seekers regarding full- and part-time employment and internship opportunities.
