UTEP’s Student Government Association held an open forum meeting Thursday evening at Union East room 313 to hear concerns over the University of Texas Board of Regents unanimous choice of Dr. Heather Wilson as finalist for UTEP president announced March 8.
Students took turns speaking to SGA, many of whom felt Wilson is not a good fit for the university and not representative of them and the community.
Wilson is currently Secretary of the U.S. Air Force. Her last day is May 31.
She visited UTEP Monday, March 11. The visit and press conference spurred protests from those in disagreement with her past voting record and political ties.

SGA president Christian Botello received criticism for a lack of transparency in the UT System selection process. He said he wants to listen to students’ concerns.
To contact SGA, visit Union East room 304, call 915-747-5584 or email [email protected].
SGA plans to release a final resolution before 5 p.m. March 26.
The UT Board of Regents will vote after a 21-day waiting period.
