Planned Emergency Exercise at UTEP to Affect Traffic, Parking

The University of Texas of El Paso will conduct an active shooter exercise the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015, that will affect parking and vehicular traffic on the south side of campus. Pedestrian traffic will be restricted during the exercise.

Several local and state law enforcement and emergency response agencies will participate in this exercise that will focus on the University Library, which will be closed to the public from 8 a.m. to noon during the exercise. The Health Sciences and Nursing (HSN) Building also will be impacted during the exercise. The University will close Rim Road west of the IC-14 parking next to the Schuster Parking Garage, and Wiggins Road south of IC-4 lot on the north side of the library during the actual exercise.

Parking lots IC-19, IC-20 and IC-21 also will be closed from 6 to 11 a.m. as will the 10 parking spaces on Wiggins Road in front of the HSN Building. Motorists who usually park in those areas may use the Schuster Parking Garage or the S-3 parking lot. Drivers may relocate their cars after the exercise.

Event organizers ask UTEP students and employees affected by this exercise to be patient and accommodating of the participating emergency response agencies.
