Single-car crash on Sun Bowl Dr.

At approximately 3:40 p.m. a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo crossed over to the opposite side of the road on Sun Bowl Dr. resulting in a single-car crash. The driver knocked over the campus speed monitor before crashing into the side of the UTEP shuttle bench.

The driver and passenger were both transported to Las Palmas Medical Center with the extent of their injuries unknown. No on looking bystanders were hurt in the crash. The crash happened on the side walk of parking garage one, which is adjacent to the campus book store.

UTEP campus police did preliminary interviews with witnesses that saw the crash, and more in depth interviews with the witnesses are in order.

Lt. Hensgen of the El Paso Police Department said speed was a factor in the crash, but texting or substance impairment is still unknown. Hensgen added that more information will come after conducting further interviews with the witnesses on scene.

I was on the Orange shuttle when I saw the wreck. First things out of my mouth were “what the f#<K!". Really intense thing to see. Reminds me when I was walking to class only to see a black suv flipped over on rim rd and university about three years ago. Seems like utep is a wreck magnet!
