Tom Brady: Alone in the discussion for the best of all time

The Patriots won their fourth Super Bowl after a 10-year drought, and a familiar face was once again the MVP.

Tom Brady lifted the Lombardy trophy for the fourth time in his record sixth time at the biggest stage of all. The California native, and now the adopted son of the Boston area, further solidified his legacy tonight as he beat the Seahawks and the legion of boom.

The notion that Tom Brady is the best of all time is not a new argument–10 years ago many would of called him the best of the best.

After David Tyree’s helmet catch and the Giants ruining the Patriots’ party twice, the conversation turned to Brady definitely being in the top three. After this year’s Super Bowl, he is at the top of that list once more because he did what he has done his whole career–win in adverse situations.

The Patriots were down by 10 in the fourth quarter when Tom Brady took over the game and played it his way. The Seahawks had bothered the veteran time and time again, leading to two interceptions. But he is a three-time MVP for a reason. Brady led the Patriots down the field to bring the game within three and eventually won the game.

Critics will claim Seattle lost the game rather than Brady winning it. The fact is that Brady once again is a Super Bowl champion and he can retire today, never play another play and say he left the game as the best.

They may also argue that he wins in the most controversial ways, who could forget the famous tuck rule, and the recent deflated footballs scandal.

With that still going on, many will soon blame the quarterback and he may no longer be considered the best, only the best when the ball is at a lower psi. Until then, the quarterback who was picked in the last round of the NFL draft, will continue to write his own movie, where soon enough he will probably play Tom Brady as Tom Brady.

No one has played in more Super Bowls. Only two others have won as many Super Bowls as Brady, and it is unlikely any other quarterback will win more. He won’t retire after this season and he will have a chance of winning another Super Bowl. None of that is relevant, as he could leave the game today and his legacy would speak with enough wins to back it up.

Putting “deflategate” behind for a minute, the Patriots’ quarterback did what his only comparison could not.

The Patriots put aside the argument of who is the better quarterback of this generation, and proved outright that he might be the best quarterback of all time by beating the Seahawks.

For now, however, Tom Brady will go home to his million-dollar estate and rest, knowing he has been to the top of the mountain and won the biggest game.
