18th annual Independence parade

18th annual Independence parade
Matthew Euzarraga

Spectators cheered as a red fire truck came down the street with the sirens playing and horn honking, sounding the start of the 18th annual Independence parade held by the Rotary Club of El Paso. Visions of Red, White and Blue flooded the streets as spectators proudly displayed this year’s parade theme “Show Your Colors America.”

Our countries colors were proudly displayed by spectators as they clapped and cheered as a huge American Flag was displayed by the El Paso Fire Department. This year’s parade Grand Marshal was Chico the mascot of El Paso’s own AAA Baseball team the Chihuahuas. Chico along with participants of the parade proudly waved and danced as they made their way down the 2.6 mile parade route that started at the Western Hills Church on 530 Tunderbird and ended at Coronado High School. Participants like El Paso’s Shady lady’s, The Insights Museum and Home Grown El Paso and other groups showed off amazing decorated floats.
