New plans for commencement ceremony announced

UTEP officials discussed plans for the 2014 spring commencement ceremony Tuesday morning at the Peter and Margaret De Wetter Center.

This announcement also kick started the annual Grad Fair, where graduating students can purchase regalia, invitations and alumni related gear. This fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day from Tuesday, March 18 through Thursday, March 20.

UTEP President Diana Natalicio, Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations Richard Daniel, and Student Government Association President Paulina Lopez announced UTEP will be breaking away from the traditional ceremony.

The ceremonial presentation, typically held at the Don Haskins Center, will instead be in Sun Bowl Stadium. A special ceremony will take place at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 17 that will encompass all colleges.

The university announced that the ceremony will include a special guest speaker, but officials have not specified who it will be.
