Sports writer Ray Sanchez to hold book signing at Centennial Museum

The UTEP Centennial Museum and Welcome Center, will host a Ray Sanchez book signing on Thursday, Feb. 20.

Ray Sanchez is a prolific and longtime El Paso sports writer, who is back at it again. This time with “The Good, the Bad and the Funny of El Paso Sports History.”

The book gives a history of almost every sport under the El Paso sun. From basketball, to horseracing and to golf, Sanchez covers it all in this book.

Since 1950, Sanchez has covered El Paso as a reporter for the El Paso Herald-Post, El Paso times and El Paso Inc. Over the years, he has written numerous amounts of books on different El Paso sports. Most notably, Sanchez has chronicled the coveted history of UTEP basketball.

From the architect of Miner basketball, Don Haskins, to the ground breaking 1966 national championship team Texas Western.

The book signing is in conjunction with the exhibit, Miner Strong: A Century of Sports at UTEP. Sanchez’s new book will be part of the many sporting exhibits on display. The Miner Strong exhibit will be up until March 18.

Javier was born and raised in El Paso, TX and before coming to UTEP in the summer of 2012, he graduated from Irvin High School, where he was a four-year varsity tennis player, a member of student council and a class officer for his graduating class.
