A funny and touching film

Special to The Prospector

There are many films that came out this winter to entertain the masses in the warm and cozy setting of a theater. However, choosing a good one can be a difficult task. “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” is a great option for those who like dramedies.

Movie goers are required to do some research in order to prepare for a good experience. Several films provide a trailer, in which the main theme is previewed in small detail. Also, the rating is given as a requirement.  Even though a movie can be previewed, sometimes it does not mean that the final film is going to be a hit.

How many times have you started watching a movie and five minutes into it you can tell that you are not interested in it? Well, in the theater it will be difficult for a person just to walk out. But sometimes people do and it is because they did not do a little research. So it is much better to be prepared and to watch something that is worth your money and time.

In the case of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” the film is an excellent choice in my opinion. Ben Stiller produced, directed and acted in this film. The result is a humorous and dramatic story, in which the audience is taking a life journey with the main character.

One of the things that got my attention was the current topics that you can relate to such as dating and having a strong voice. The film was done with good taste, it is enjoyable and it leaves a good feeling in the viewer. It has a good balance between the dramatic points and the comic relief.

The settings are spectacular, ranging from the city of New York to the Himalayan Mountains in Afghanistan, just to mention a few.  As you watch the movie you get transported to these amazing places and the feeling is indescribable. It is in stark contrast to those reality shows, where the only thing they give you is anxiety with the risks that those people take.

The biggest lesson that I took from this film is an appreciation for all people. Especially for those who are not in a privileged position at work, but without forgetting that because of them your work is possible. So we are interdependent on each other and Stiller was on the right path to make it known in this film.

In the end, this film was a surprise for me. I was expecting a comedy because of the previous works that Stiller has done. I got so much more than just a comedy, the film is a celebration of humanity and the choices that you can make to better your life.
