New Miners Maniacs had the opportunity to meet each other and several members of the football team at their kick-off party two days before the season opener.

The Miner Maniac kick-off party took place Thursday afternoon at the Larry K. Durham Center, the venue near full capacity with enthusiastic students who are excited for the start of the football season. Members see it as a positive sign for the athletic season and the Miner Maniac club.

Chris Ibarra, a Miner Maniac, said this year in UTEP athletics is bigger than previous years.

“I think there is just a whole new attitude around the team with the new coach and a new system it lit a fire within the city,” Ibarra said.

Junior running back Nathan Jeffery attended the kick-off event and talked about the upcoming season, as well as how much the team appreciates their support.

“They seem pretty excited, I think they are going to be wild,” Jeffery said. “I feel that they are going to support us all the way.”

Guest speakers included UTEP band director T.Andre Feagin and head coach Sean Kugler who spoke to the Maniacs about the upcoming football season.  Pizza, drinks, and door prizes were all given out to members.
