The UTEP Union gallery is currently hosting “A Story of Impossible Things,” a collaborative exhibit by Genova Fuentes, senior criminal justice major and her 12-year-old sister, Fatima Fuentes. The exhibit will remain open to the public until Aug. 9.
The exhibition focuses on the power of imagination that books have on our everyday life. It is a story of two sisters, “leaping through the pages of their favorite books, fulfilling their imagination with wonderful stories that seem to be impossible.”
According to Fuentes, this has been an ongoing project in which they have worked on for a long time and stories have developed through the years.
“Reasons came from different angels. We both had trouble reading when we were young, but we began to appreciate it and were submerged in the stories by each page, into a land of imagination.”
Genoveva’s first book was “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” while Fatima read “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.”
Through her collections, Genoveva remembers a time where her sister came home frustrated, due to a conversation she had with a friend telling her not to waste time reading books and to just wait for the movies and video games, that were based on the books, to come out.
“Films and video games just limit our imagination. Reading is important in many ways; it is how we go about everyday. It helps exercise the brain, improve our concentration and vocabulary.”
The exhibit is located in the Union east building, 2nd floor.
